Silica-Free 8mm Engineered Mineral Composite Slabs

Guardian Ventures is pleased to confirm that we are transitioning our entire slab range to silica-free 8mm Engineered Mineral Composite Slabs, with the majority of colours now available in silica-free, marking a significant step forward in material innovation.

A New Era in Stone Surfaces

Our worktops are the UK’s only 8mm overlay silica-free surfaces, independently tested with no detectable crystalline silica. This makes them safer and easier to cut, shape, and install, delivering a smoother, cleaner, and more efficient experience for everyone working with them.

Why This Matters to the Industry

Traditionally, engineered stone relied on quartz as its primary aggregate. While this provided strength and durability, quartz contains crystalline silica, which can generate respirable dust during fabrication.

In response, the industry has moved towards alternative formulations and Guardian Ventures has fully embraced this evolution, offering a future-ready material designed for modern fabrication environments.

How Our Silica-Free Slabs Are Made

Our 8mm Engineered Mineral Composite Slabs replace traditional quartz with a carefully engineered mineral blend, including: Recycled glass, Feldspar, Ceramic particles, Porcelain-based materials and Natural low-silica minerals.

These materials are combined with advanced polymer resins and compacted under high pressure, vibration, and vacuum, creating a dense, uniform, non-porous surface.

The result is a high-performance slab with no added crystalline silica, while maintaining the consistency and reliability expected in the kitchen makeover market.

Performance Without Compromise

Moving away from quartz does not mean sacrificing performance. Our slabs deliver:

  • Structural consistency
  • Surface durability
  • Low porosity
  • Dimensional stability
  • Suitability for overlay installations

At 8mm thickness, they remain ideal for kitchen makeover applications, offering reduced weight, easier handling, and efficient installation.

Standard fabrication best practices, including wet cutting, dust extraction, and PPE, still apply. However, the removal of crystalline silica represents a clear advancement in material composition and usability.

A Future-Focused Material for the Makeover Market

This transition reflects the direction of the global engineered stone industry.

For retailers, fabricators, and installers, it provides:

  • A modern, compliant material specification
  • Greater confidence in material handling
  • Continued fabrication reliability
  • A future-proof product category

Guardian Ventures remains committed to delivering materials that combine innovation, safety, and performance, supporting the evolving needs of the kitchen makeover sector.
